Mr Charalampos Pantelias

I am currently a fourth year medical student at the University of Sheffield, where I was President of Sheffield Medical School Sports and Exercise Society and the Sheffield Medical School Nutrition Society. My initial interest in Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) stemmed from my childhood obsession with sports and football in particular, where I have spent endless hours playing the sport. I currently play for the Sheffield Medics football team and have represented the medical school in the annual National Association of Medical School tournaments for the last three years. During my medical studies, my interest in SEM was further fuelled by the realization that many ailments in today’s society are attributed to a bad lifestyle, lack of sports and exercise and that SEM can play an important role in preventative medicine.  For my six week elective in my third year of my medical studies, I assisted in musculoskeletal anatomical teaching involving cadaveric dissection, to first year students. Additionally, I was involved with the Sheffield United Academy Football Club, where I attended ultrasound scanning clinics and experienced first-hand the role of a sports physician as well as the whole medical team. My objective for being a member of the ECOSEP medical school students committee is to raise the awareness of SEM and its contribution it makes to a healthier lifestyle.
