30 Nov Message from the President
Dear member, ECOSEP has come of age.
I make this statement after our 4th Congress recently held in Barcelona. This was in association with the 7th Muscletech Network Workshop, the group brought together by FC Barcelona, and Aspetar, the team lead by Karim Khan from Qatar.
For those who think of FC Barcelona as just a football club is in fact like a small town with 2000 athletes between pro and amateur from all ages Sixteen Sports (track and field, basket men/women and wheelchair, baseball, football men/women, futsal, handball, ice hockey, roller hockey, Field hockey, rugby, ice skating, volleyball men/women),with a Medical team structure of 46 Health care Providers .20 Sports and Exercise Medicine Physicians two orthopedic surgeons, a cardiologist. Twenty six physiotherapist and nurses .Visitors and spectators: 3.000.000 per year between all sports, and facilities.
With this medically supervised and monitored population the expertise generated by the workshop is immense.
Karim Khan needs no introduction.
ECOSEP was with equals in terms of contributions and impact on the meeting and we were able to confirm our objectives of facilitating any European country in settings its standards in SEM and promoting cross border research. I was indeed proud of our achievements.
At the Board meeting Xavier Valle (Spain) was elected Chairman and Heinz Lohrer (Germany) is now Chairman elect. Nikos Malliaropoulos remains our long serving, hard working Executive Secretary.
We held a meeting with the incoming Chair and Vice-chair of the ASSM with a view to exploring some sharing of educational resources and looking at collaborative research.
We have observer status at the WHO anti-obesity program.
These successes can only go forward with more support from our members. I am therefor asking all current members to pay their dues and to encourage others in their home countries to become members. Remember the advantages of the free BJSEM, one of the highest impact Sports Medicine journals.
As President I will personally pay the years subscription for the first five members to recruit five paying members from their own country!
