Dr Lucienne Attard
MD, MSc (Sports & Ex Med), FFSEM(UK), FFSEM(I), EUFSEM, DSM(RCS), MMCFD
Dr Attard is a Consultant in Sports & Exercise Medicine, working in the Orthopaedic, Trauma and Sports Medicine Department of Mater Dei Hospital in Malta. She graduated MD from the University of Malta, obtained a Diploma in Sports Medicine from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons & Physicians of Scotland, and a Master of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Bath (UK). She is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine (FFSEM) of the Royal College of Physicians of both UK and Ireland.
She has many years’ experience working with elite athletes from all sports and was many times the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Team Leader for Team Malta athletes at major competitions which include the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Mediterranean Games and Games for the Small States of Europe from 2001-2022. Specialising in all sports and exercise related conditions, her particular area of expertise being the use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Dry Needling and Acupuncture to treat musculoskeletal conditions.
Besides clinical work, Lucienne is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta, where she teaches Exercise Physiology and Sports Science.
Dr Lucienne is also very active in the Anti-Doping scene as she is the Chairperson of the Anti-Doping Commission of Malta, and also chairs the Council of Europe Education Advisory Group on Anti- Doping and represents the Maltese government at EU and Council of Europe meetings on anti- doping. She is a firm believer in education as a means of preventing doping among athletes.
She has been an elected Executive Board member of the Maltese Olympic Committee since 2004 and chairs the Women in Sport and Medical Commissions.
She is also the Secretary General of the Maltese Association for Sports & Exercise Medicine (MASEM) and is a member of BASEM.
